What a lovely week we've had!

This week we've enjoyed playing with loose parts and tiny boxes.
Counting is much more fun when you have interesting things to touch.

Recognising your own name is important too, this week we've been making our name with individual letters and decorating them with glass nuggets.

On Friday we had a fun time making Christmas decorations. Thank you to the adults for staying.

Here is the slide show of all the learning happening in FS2 this week.

Can you tell your grown up what you've enjoyed this week?

Golden Children

This week we said well done to Elisia and Afraz

Elisia - All the adults have noticed how busy Elisia is when she is at school. She is always having fun with her friends.

Afraz has had a sudden surge of confidence lately. He enjoys telling others about what he has found out and what he will do next in his learning.

Our learning this week

This week we've had lots of fun with shapes in maths time and the children have been using their phonic skills to identify initial sounds and write words.

I found it hard to choose only one photo, so I made a collage instead.

Ask your grown up to help you write a comment about what you have enjoyed this week.

Well done to Alfie and Ellie

Ellie is a superstar in class. She is such a help when it comes to tidy up time. Always looking for ways to help everyone in class. Thank you Ellie from everybody in FS2.

I have nominated Alfie for the Gold Book this week for his excellent attitude in class. When ever I change a new challenge area activity, Alfie is always one of the first to have a go.

PE this week

This term in PE we are learning about moving in different ways. We are also learning how to get changed independently into our PE kit and back into our uniform now. We are getting much better at this and only need a little help!

This week we have been 'slithering'. We thought about animals that slither and how they move and then tried to move using a slithering action. We slithered on our stomachs and on our backs. We slithered forwards, backwards and in a sideways direction! Have a look at our slideshow!

Our first week back

We have had a great first week back, the children continue to be settled and ready for new challenges they face.

Here is the slide show for this week. We would love to read any comments you make.

Photo of the week

Earlier in the week the children found out what was inside a pumpkin. They were fascinated with the seeds and stringy flesh. We decided to do an experiment and find out the answer to the question; "Do pumpkin seeds float or sink?"
The children recorded their answers on the easel and during the time when we come together at the end of our morning, we found out that our seeds did both.
I was so impressed with the children's attitude and independence.

Kindness in FS2

All the classes in school have a "Say something kind" board.
They give a complement to someone who deserves recognition for their attitude.
In FS2 we have a "Do something kind" board. The children look out for kindness and write the person's name on the board.

This is how it looked today.

Rhys M helped Abigail to find the end of the tape, so Abigail wrote his name on the board.
Harrision helped Elyse.
Caylem held the door open so I wrote his name.
Abigail was kind to Rhys M.
Mason was kind and someone has written his name onto our special board

I wonder how many people will do something kind next week?

Big Talk session

Thank you to the adults for spending time talking to the children about the photograph above.

Here are some of the responses from the class; (written as it was said)

Summer - The tree has fallen down onto the car

Olivia S-S - People might be in the car and stuck

Jared - Man with an axe would chop the tree and open car with key

Caylem - Tree smashed the gate, squashed the car and flattened

Robbie - Someone needs to push the tree off the car

Rhys G - Tree bent the gate

Tallulah - Storm might have crashed the tree down

Ellie Gr -Wind blown the tree down

Riley - There's tape round the tree

Ellie Grif - If people are in this side of the car, they can get out of the other side

Lewis - Gate is snapped

Matthew - Firemen might move the tree

Marshall - Move it with a fire engine using the crane

Joseph - They'll have to get a new gate

This has been the best Big Talk session so far, well done FS2.

Golden Children

This week we say congratulations to Mason and Oliver.

Mason has been showing great determination lately when writing the letters in his name at the chalk table. Keep going Mason, you'll soon be able to do it.

Oliver is in the Gold Book this week for his consistent positive attitude towards school and his learning. He is always busy in the areas of the classroom. A pleasure to teach!

Investigating the inside of a pumpkin

We had great fun today finding out what is inside a pumpkin.
The children noticed the pumpkin contained seeds and stringy flesh. According to Abigail; "The seeds are slippy, just like banana skin"

The children used different tools, tweezers and tongs to take out the seeds. We counted them too and realised our pumpkin contained more than 20 seeds.

Tomorrow we will put the seeds in the water tray, I wonder if they will float or sink.
What do you think?
